The entrance to Escolle Vineyard starts off River Road and climbs upward over 300 feet into the Highlands. In the upper reaches of the vineyard we selected a single block of Pommard with the intention of creating a supple wine that would capture the essence of the appellation.
Plentiful sunshine and perfect temperatures combined to create what will be remembered as an extraordinary 2012 vintage in Northern California. The weather yielded layers of flavor and terrific structure in the grapes—which translated to excellent wine. The sun kept shining, with beautifully consistent daytime temperatures that hovered between 85 degrees and 90 degrees. Nights cooled off to the mid-50’s, preserving essential acidity in the grapes. We had the luxury of picking each vineyard exactly when desired without any pressure from inclement weather.
Intriguing example of Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot from the Upper Bench of Escole. The Pommard clone and aspect of this vineyard combine to give this wine a nose of cherries and black raspberries with aromas of earth and light smoke. In the mouth the wine is juicy and beautifully balanced with feminine fruit style, silky tannins and finish. Very elegant for Pommard SLH Pinot.

"Deep ruby color; bright raspberry, strawberry and savory spice; supple, lush and juicy; deep, clean and balanced."
92 POINTS RUSTY GAFFNEY, THE PRINCE OF PINOT
"The nose really attracts attention with vivid aromas of fresh cherries, strawberries, and sandalwood. Soft, even pillowy on the palate with middleweight flavors of red cherries and red strawberries, accented with a hint of cola and oak. A very refined, elegant interpretation of Santa Lucia Highlands fruit with a sleek finish."
